Candy Snake Gallery is pleased to present The Mirror of Simple Souls, a solo exhibition by Riccardo Albiero curated by Leonardo Regano.

The exhibition's title recalls the medieval mystical work of Marguerite Porete, and as in that spiritual text, Albiero's paintings also engage in a profound dialogue with absence, desire, and the invisible. His paintings, populated by faces with evanescent features and symbolic animal figures, are not portraits in the traditional sense, but affective presences, interior traces suspended between memory and intuition.

As Leonardo Regano writes, for Albiero the portrait is never a possession but an evocation, "a trace of what cannot be retained: a beloved face, perhaps imagined, whose memory settles on the pictorial surface like a silent prayer."

Through patient and refined painting techniques—such as egg tempera on layered glazes—Albiero constructs images that seek not to grasp reality, but to evoke a poetic and meditative space, poised between the visible and what eludes the gaze. Again, quoting the exhibition curator, "painting becomes a time of waiting, not passive but vibrant and suspended, in which vision exists in a perpetual balance between light and shadow, presence and absence."

In his works, elements such as greyhounds and symbolic plants contribute to an intimate and layered visual lexicon, where each image is a threshold, a silent prayer, a fleeting apparition. The exhibition thus offers an immersion in a silent and contemplative universe, where painting becomes a spiritual gesture, an evocation, and an offering.

Riccardo Albiero (Chioggia, 1996) lives and works between Chioggia and Venice.

His works have been presented in solo and group exhibitions, in Italy and abroad, and are present in several private collections, both Italian and international.
